[The Korea Economic Daily] Everything in Golf Connects Through GOLFZON…”A Quantum Leap as a Platform”
The Korea Economic Daily reported that GOLFZON, which has led the popularization of golf in Korea since first unveiling its screen golf simulator in 2002, is preparing to make the leap into a “platform company” as it marks the 21st anniversary of its founding. As of 2020, some 28,600 systems were in operation at 5,400 screen golf venues nationwide, and with more than 3.3 million service subscribers, 7 out of every 10 golfers in Korea were using GOLFZON, the report noted. It added that GOLFZON—which has grown into a comprehensive golf group by expanding across the entire industry, including golf course operations, equipment distribution, and golf lessons—has seen its annual revenue increase roughly 300-fold in the 20 years since its founding.
The Korea Economic Daily reported that GOLFZON has unveiled its plan to leverage golfers’ big data and its own technological capabilities to provide, through the GOLFZON app, a platform service that encompasses golf from start to finish—covering course reservations and bookings, round video recording, customized lessons, simple payments, and even designated-driver services. The report noted that, building on its existing base of 3.3 million members, GOLFZON expects that achieving annual revenue of 1 trillion won could be possible once the platform service gains traction.
The Korea Economic Daily reported that GOLFZON, drawing on the technological competitiveness it holds as the No. 1 player in screen golf, has set expansion into a global golf platform as its mid- to long-term goal and is seeking a new growth engine for the golf industry.
