U.S. golf media outlet GolfWRX shared highlights from a live forum Q&A with GOLFZON. The discussion focused on GDR MAX, GOLFZON’s golf practice simulator, and the technology designed to help golfers practice, train and improve.
Robin Symes, Global Director and Master Certified Instructor at GOLFZON LEADBETTER ACADEMY, answered questions from GolfWRX forum members. The selected questions covered topics including club fitting, data measurement, system maintenance, putting analysis and practice features.
Questions About Fitting and Data Measurement on GDR MAX
Forum members asked about the fitting capabilities of GDR MAX and how the system measures ball and club data. Referring to GOLFZON’s own testing, Symes explained that GDR MAX provides data for club fitting and includes a dedicated fitting function separate from the practice environment.
When asked about golf balls, Symes said the system works with colored balls, although white balls are recommended. He added that, in the company’s testing, ball quality mattered more than color and that range balls could have a significant effect on the numbers, particularly spin.
According to Symes, golfers do not need to mark their golf balls for ball data measurement. He explained that stickers are placed on the clubface to improve the accuracy of club data.
Interest in Maintenance and Putting Analysis
Forum members also asked about system maintenance. Symes described a monthly subscription covering software and hardware maintenance, as well as basic care such as cleaning the system and keeping software up to date.
He said annual impact screen replacement is generally recommended for high-traffic commercial facilities, while replacement intervals for personal systems can be longer depending on use. He also outlined warranty and parts support.
Discussing putting analysis, Symes said the feature had proved useful in initial testing. In response to questions about future versions of the technology, he noted that the roadmap was a matter for the technology and development teams and that the current focus was on the initial launch configuration.
Practicing Different Golf Situations with GDR MAX
Symes explained that GDR MAX offers practice across a driving range, short-game areas and putting greens, as well as opportunities to practice from different situations on a course. He also described a randomized practice feature that changes the player’s position within a selected distance range, encouraging golfers to choose different clubs and shots.
He added that a new coaching suite linked to a coaching app, with additional drills and guided practice, was planned for the coming months. The GolfWRX forum Q&A offered a look at GDR MAX through questions raised by golfers and answers from GOLFZON.
