JoongAng Ilbo reported that the Yuwon Golf Foundation and Seoul National University’s Center for Sport Industry Research have published the ‘Korea Golf Industry White Paper 2024,’ covering the current status and future strategy of Korea’s golf industry, as an e-book. First published in 2016 and issued every two years since, this edition draws on 2022–2023 domestic golf market data to provide a comprehensive analysis of the market size across the entire industry—including field golf, screen golf, equipment, and tourism. It estimated the total size of Korea’s golf market in 2023 at KRW 22.433 trillion, representing growth of approximately 8% year over year, and added that the golf population was analyzed to have surpassed 7 million.
JoongAng Ilbo reported that the white paper emphasized how field golf and screen golf have developed in a parallel structure, maintaining a high degree of synchronization while growing the overall market pie. While the direct-participation market for field golf shrank 7.7% year over year in 2023, the screen golf participation market grew approximately 7.5%, absorbing substitute demand. The equipment market and tourism market also expanded by 14.7% and 43.6%, respectively, clearly demonstrating a trend toward the diversification of golf consumption.
JoongAng Ilbo reported that, through the publication of this white paper, GOLFZON Group went beyond a simple analysis of market size to broadly reflect changes in consumer behavior and the diversification of the industry’s structure, and that it expects the paper to serve as foundational reference material for the continued development of Korea’s golf industry.
