Kim Young-chan, Chairman of GOLFZON Newdin Group, and his family have been practicing a unique form of giving through golf to help vulnerable members of the local community.
Chairman Kim and his family donated the ‘Love Thy Neighbor Birdie Fund’ of KRW 50 million—accumulated this year each time they recorded a score of birdie or better and a *age shoot over a year of golf rounds—to the Community Chest of Korea’s Daejeon Community Chest on the 6th.
*Age shoot (Age Shoot, recording a score equal to or lower than one’s own age during a golf round)
The funds Chairman Kim accumulated together with his family came to △KRW 52 million in 2020, △KRW 46 million in 2021, △KRW 60 million in 2022, and △KRW 50 million in 2023—a total of more than KRW 200 million donated over four years.
Chairman Kim’s Love Thy Neighbor Birdie Fund will be used through the Daejeon Community Chest as a donation to help vulnerable members of the local community who are exposed to the cold during the winter season.
Kim Young-chan, Chairman of GOLFZON Newdin Group, said, “I am pleased that we can deliver warmth to our neighbors with the Love Thy Neighbor Birdie Fund we have happily accumulated over the past year”, adding, “we will continue our ongoing giving activities so that a culture of sharing can spread throughout our society”.
Meanwhile, GOLFZON Newdin Group has delivered KRW 500 million in Love Thy Neighbor donations to the Daejeon Community Chest since 2020, accumulating a total of KRW 2 billion in contributions to date. Through this, in 2021 it became the first company in the Daejeon region to earn Gold Membership in the Honor Society—an honor given to companies that achieve cumulative donations of KRW 500 million or more. In addition, the group has consistently supported a healthy winter for vulnerable members of the local community and spread positive influence by participating in the ‘Yuseong-gu Love Kimchi Sharing’ campaign since 2010 and, since 2016, conducting company-wide volunteer activities delivering kimchi and daily necessities to the Suseo area of Gangnam-gu at year-end.
GOLFZON Newdin Group was launched in May 2000, when founder Chairman Kim Young-chan started the screen golf venture company ‘GOLFZON’ with five employees at the Daedeok Research Complex in Daejeon, and this year it marks its 23rd anniversary. Today, beyond its screen golf business, it has grown into a global golf platform company operating businesses including △GDR Academy △golf course management △golf equipment distribution △rangefinders and VR content development △Korea’s largest golf platform (GOLFZON.com), contributing to the popularization of golf as a sport in Korea and the development of the global golf industry.
