The ‘CJ X Team Korea Invitational with GOLFZON’ was a special event hosted through a partnership with CJ Group, an official partner of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and Im Sung-jae’s main sponsor. It was broadcast live from 5:30 p.m. via Screen GOLFZON TV, the GOLFZON YouTube channel, JTBC Golf, Naver Sports, and Daum Sports.
With a total prize purse of 20 million won, the tournament was played as individual play in an 18-hole modified Stableford format on the actual official course of the Hangzhou Asian Games golf events, Hangzhou West Lake Global Golf Country Club (CC). As GOLFZON’s first screen golf match held in conjunction with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and CJ, it carried even greater significance, and the prize money is to be donated to the Korea Golf Association (KGA) in the name of the winner, Jang Yu-bin, embodying the spirit of advancing Korean golf and contributing to society.
The lineup—pro Im Sung-jae, who has recorded two career PGA Tour wins and qualified for every event of this season’s FedExCup Playoffs; Cho Woo-young, who has been stirring up an amateur sensation in Korean men’s golf this year as the winner of the KPGA GOLFZON Open in Jeju; and Jang Yu-bin, the August KPGA Gunsan CC Open winner—took to the screen and delighted golf fans with their hidden screen golf skills and charm.
After making a bogey on the first hole, Jang Yu-bin immediately scored an eagle for 5 points on the second hole and surged ahead with unrelenting play through the final hole, unleashing powerful shots exceeding 300m and radiating the lively, bright energy befitting the national team’s youngest member. True to the saying “Im Sung-jae is Im Sung-jae after all,” Im delighted many golf fans once again, showing off his signature jump shot as well as awe-inspiring straight shots and celebrations rarely seen out on the field, all while communicating with his fellow players and enjoying the game. Cho Woo-young, too, once again showed off his appeal with the smooth swing characteristic of his flexibility and his unshakable focus on the game.
It was a fascinating occasion to see a screen match by national team players rarely seen elsewhere, and as the holes added up, the players loosened up and delivered unreserved, brilliant shots that kept the gallery’s eyes glued to them. The players, too, were able to have a meaningful time to set aside their nerves and build teamwork ahead of the actual games.
The winner Jang Yu-bin shared his thoughts on the victory, saying, “I was able to have such a wonderful experience with the seniors I respect, and through this win I can also make a donation, so I feel happy and delighted.” Cho Woo-young shared his thoughts on participating, saying, “It was great to attend such a meaningful occasion and team up with Sung-jae and Yu-bin; I’ll carry this good energy and win a gold medal at the Asian Games, too.” Im Sung-jae likewise expressed his bold ambitions and wonderful sentiments, saying, “As this is a special tournament returning after four years, I’ll focus on the games at the Asian Games as much as possible, day by day, shot by shot, and my goal is for us to definitely bring home medals together.”
