GOLFZON Successfully Hosts Simulator Experience at the 146th Open Championship (Royal Birkdale)
Southport, United Kingdom — GOLFZON, a company specializing in golf simulators, announced that it had successfully operated a simulator experience program at the 146th Open Championship two weeks ago. GOLFZON brand ambassador Matt Kuchar finished runner-up after a fierce battle with eventual champion Jordan Spieth during the weekend rounds, recording his best-ever performance in an individual major championship. Off the course, GOLFZON showcased its state-of-the-art golf simulators to the record crowds that gathered at the world’s oldest major golf tournament.
The 39-year-old Kuchar, who resides on Sea Island, Georgia, in the United States, recently joined GOLFZON as a brand ambassador. At this year’s Open, the third major of the season, he played the third and final rounds in the same group as Spieth, shooting 66 and 69 respectively, and ultimately finished the tournament in second place, three strokes behind Spieth. Following a tie for fourth at this year’s Masters and a tie for 16th at the U.S. Open, Kuchar’s runner-up finish at the Open marked the finest major championship season of his 17-year professional career.
GOLFZON installed two simulators at HSBC GOLFZON within the spectator village at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club site. One unit used Driving Range mode to host a Nearest to the Pin Challenge from 50 yards, while the other ran a Longest Drive event set against the 17th hole, the Road Hole, of the Old Course at St Andrews. Both simulators used the GDR system, a golf training simulator that combines sensors with high-resolution dual cameras.
A total of 235,000 spectators visited this year’s tournament, setting a record for the largest crowd ever for an Open Championship held outside of St Andrews. Visitors were able to conveniently enjoy the spectator village and HSBC GOLFZON, which featured food and beverage areas, a children’s play zone, and large TV screens.
Tommy Lim, Senior Vice President of GOLFZON, said, “We continue to feel great anticipation and reward from the response that fans visiting the Open Championship have shown toward the GOLFZON simulator experience,” adding, “GOLFZON’s global presence is being demonstrated through events such as the Open Championship, the world’s oldest professional golf tournament, as well as through a wide range of venues and events around the world. GOLFZON is committed to ensuring that everyone can enjoy golf as an enjoyable experience.”
GOLFZON plans to take part in additional events in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States this summer and throughout the remainder of 2017, with related details to be announced at a later date.
