GOLFZON Restores ‘Gunjari CC,’ a Landmark in Korean Golf History, as a Screen Golf Course

GOLFZON Co., Ltd.(Co-CEOs Park Kang-soo·Choi Deok-hyung) announced on the 11th that it has restored ‘Gunjari CC,’ regarded as the starting point of Korean golf, as a screen golf course and is presenting it at screen golf venues nationwide equipped with GOLFZON simulators.

‘Gunjari CC,’ regarded as the starting point of Korean golf, is 1929Korea’s first 18-hole golf course, which opened in a symbolic space where Korean golf culture began in earnest. Although its function as a golf course ended in 1972 when the area was converted into Seoul Children’s Grand Park due to urban development, the building of Korea’s first golf course clubhouse, which stood beside Hole 1, is still preserved in the Children’s Grand Park today as ‘Kkummaru‘.

GOLFZON restored the course based on the historical materials and records of Gunjari CC, applying Unreal Engine 5 to the simulator technology it has accumulated over the past 20-plus years. The course as a whole reflects the flow of the terrain and the atmosphere of the period when it operated from 1929 to 1971, and in particular, the cart paths and ground textures were a focal point in recreating the past Gunjari CC environment.

GOLFZON reborn this precisely restored course through its screen golf platform by applying Unreal Engine 5, which delivers extreme realism, a sophisticated physics engine, and support for high-performance hardware. This restoration of the Gunjari CC course carries great significance in that it offers golfers the special experience of playing a round at a now-vanished historic site of Korean golf and contributes to carrying on Korea’s golf cultural heritage in a digital environment.
