Media Coverage China

Chinese portal Sohu (搜狐) reported that the women’s final of the first leg of the GOLFZON China Network Tournament, a Chinese professional golf event, was held at the Beijing GOLFZON Park flagship store, where veteran professional Yan Panpan claimed victory with steady play over 72 holes and won prize money of 300,000 yuan.

The article noted that, at a time when professional tournaments had been greatly curtailed by COVID-19, this event—offering prize money of more than 1 million yuan—drew attention for its exceptional scale, and that the women’s competition, originally scheduled for September, had been postponed to October owing to the pandemic situation. It reported that 60 top-tier players took part, comprising the top 55 in the Chinese Golf Association’s women’s professional points ranking along with those selected through wild-card qualifiers held across hundreds of golf courses in 33 cities and 15 provinces nationwide.

The article reported that Chairman Park Sung-bong said, “By introducing the rules and standards of professional tournaments, we aim to establish the benchmark for indoor golf simulator competitions in China and to serve as a platform that contributes to the popularization of golf among the public.” It also reported that champion Yan Panpan, who normally focuses on teaching activities and simulator training, gained confidence through this victory and wanted to show young players that anyone can succeed through hard work.
