Indoor Golf Usage in Japan Rises Roughly 8 Percentage Points in One Year
GOLFZON Japan Co., Ltd. (hereinafter GOLFZON Japan) conducts a brand survey (in-house survey) every December that includes the current state of indoor golf usage and related topics.
In this release, the company presents the survey findings on golfers’ use of facilities.
※ Surveyed facilities: ① golf courses ② golf driving ranges (outdoor ranges) ③ indoor golf
Indoor Golf Usage in Japan on the Rise
The indoor golf usage rate (including concurrent use with other facilities) reached 27.8%, up roughly 8 percentage points from the 19.7% recorded in the same survey in 2024.
In addition, the segment of golfers who use golf courses, outdoor ranges, and indoor golf alike increased by approximately 5 percentage points year on year.
Furthermore, the segment that does not use golf courses but does use outdoor ranges and indoor golf facilities, which had been at nearly 0% in the previous survey, rose to 1.3% in this survey.
These results suggest that indoor golf usage is gradually expanding, led by beginner golfers.
2025: n=769

Background to the Increase in Indoor Golf Usage in Japan
One of the factors behind the rise in indoor golf usage is the declining trend in outdoor golf driving ranges.
According to a survey and study on golf businesses (driving ranges) by the Research and Study Committee of the All Japan Golf Driving Range Federation, a public interest incorporated association, the number of outdoor golf driving ranges had decreased by 23 facilities as of January 2025.
Assuming an average of 30 hitting bays per facility, this amounts to a reduction of approximately 700 bays.
By contrast, indoor golf facilities decreased by 11 nationwide, but even when converted at 3 bays per facility, the number of bays lost amounts to only about 33.
Alongside these changes in the practice environment, there appears to be a growing tendency, led by younger golfers and women, to value time efficiency and to use indoor golf facilities near home or work.
High accessibility and the ability to practice efficiently using data analysis and swing video can also be seen as factors supporting demand for indoor golf.
