GOLFZON Co., Ltd. (Co-CEOs Park Kang-soo and Choi Deok-hyung) announced that it successfully concluded the ‘2023 Maotai Bulaojiu Open’ screen golf tournament finals, held over two days from the 7th at the GOLFZON China Beijing Flagship Store in China.
The ‘2023 Maotai Bulaojiu Open,’ with a total prize pool of 1.5 million yuan (270 million won), was hosted by GOLFZON China, with the Chinese liquor company Maotai Bulaojiu serving as the main sponsor. From May through June, qualifying rounds were held at GOLFZON stores across China, drawing 4,600 participants, followed by the finals at the GOLFZON China Beijing Flagship Store over two days on July 7-8.
A total of 70 participants competed in the finals, putting on a fierce screen golf contest, and 14-year-old amateur Zhao Zixu from Tianjin, who recorded the lowest score with a four-round final total of 36 under par, took the title. In particular, champion Zhao Zixu shared that, influenced by his golf-loving father, he had used golf simulators from a young age, and that steadily practicing with GOLFZON’s golf simulator helped him take one step closer to victory.
As for the results, second place went to Chen Yanmin, an employee at the GOLFZON China Shanghai Flagship Store, with a final total of 26 under par, and third place went to Zhang Mingchu with a final total of 25 under par. The champion received a prize of 300,000 yuan, while second and third place received 170,000 and 100,000 yuan respectively. Prizes were awarded by rank from 4th through 70th place, and all finals participants received Maotai Bulaojiu as a gift.
The ‘2023 Maotai Bulaojiu Open’ was the first amateur screen golf tournament that GOLFZON held through a sponsorship with a local Chinese company. With an unusually large prize pool for a screen golf tournament and more than 4,000 amateurs participating in the qualifiers alone, it drew considerable local attention. Notably, it stands out for the way a major local industry (liquor) company used screen golf as a new marketing channel, including announcing the launch of a new product in connection with screen golf.
Park Sung-bong, Chairman of GOLFZON China, said, “As a global total golf platform company, GOLFZON is accelerating its overseas business expansion based on a glocalization strategy,” adding, “We have been continuously hosting screen golf tournaments in China, and we plan to do our best to enhance brand awareness and expand the golf base in the Chinese market through collaboration with local partners.”
