A new business model that envisions the future of urban golf

SEOUL, Republic of Korea — GOLFZON Co., Ltd. (Co-CEOs Kang-soo Park and Deok-hyung Choi) announced that it has officially opened the first location of its urban golf course model, City Golf, at the Maigang Convention Center in Tianjin, China.

City Golf is a hybrid golf platform that combines screen golf with real greens, with the goal of delivering a premium golf experience even within the heart of the city. Spanning an indoor space of approximately 106,000 square feet, it is configured with 18 holes, each equipped with one screen and one artificial green. As a model that merges the advantages of screen golf with the realism of actual greens, City Golf offers a golf experience that reduces environmental impact, aligning with GOLFZON’s ESG management direction. The Tianjin location in China is City Golf’s first store, and GOLFZON plans to expand City Golf to major cities around the world going forward.

Young-chan Kim, Chairman of the GOLFZON Newdin Group, said, “City Golf is the most ideal urban golf course, built upon GOLFZON’s world-class golf simulator technology and golf course operation know-how,” adding, “Starting with China, we will expand into the global market, and we expect it to grow into a world-class golf platform that delivers a new and differentiated golf experience similar to an actual golf course round, right in the heart of the city.”

At City Golf, tee shots and approach shots are played on the screen, and once the ball reaches the green, the screen automatically lifts so players can finish the hole by putting on a real green. This innovative structure reduces the constraints of space and environment while providing a play experience similar to a real golf course, presenting new possibilities for urban golf. Each of the 18 holes features an individually designed green, allowing users to experience the feel of greens from a variety of golf courses.

Jin-pyo Hong, leader of GOLFZON’s City Golf TF Team, said, “The key challenge was seamlessly integrating real green design into the game,” adding, “Through close collaboration with GOLFZON’s China subsidiary on-site, we built the system to a high level of completeness.”

The Maigang Convention Center also illustrates the direction of the various amenities that future City Golf stores will feature. From a golf equipment store set up at the entrance to dining spaces where guests can relax after a round, City Golf offers not only top-tier simulator technology but also high-quality products and services. As a one-stop golf entertainment space where golf, fitness, and dining can be enjoyed in a single venue, it is expected to attract a diverse range of consumers centered on golf.

The operation of City Golf in China will be handled by GOLFZON China, GOLFZON’s joint venture. Drawing on its experience leading more than 230 screen golf facilities in China, GOLFZON China plans to create a new golf culture in the Chinese market, where the potential for golf to become more mainstream continues to grow.

Headquartered in Seoul, Republic of Korea, GOLFZON has been developing world-leading golf simulators for more than 20 years. Technology is GOLFZON’s core competitive strength: it holds more than 360 patents related to its award-winning simulators, and its research and development organization files new patents every year.
