GOLFZON Co., Ltd. (Co-CEOs Park Kang-soo and Choi Deok-hyung) announced on the 31st that it has signed a ‘Chungnam National University ESG Center Development Fund’ donation agreement with the university’s Regional Cooperation Headquarters, pledging a total of KRW 100 million over five years from 2025 to 2029.
By delivering development funds to Chungnam National University’s ESG Center, which leads ESG culture among universities, GOLFZON arranged this donation to join in nurturing future talent through the realization of social value and to expand its support for ESG research and education in the region.
The fund presentation ceremony took place on the 30th at the Chungnam National University headquarters, attended by GOLFZON NEWDIN Group Chairman Kim Young-chan, Chungnam National University President Kim Jeong-gyeom, and other officials. The delivered funds will be used for environmental protection campaigns, social contribution programs, and projects to enhance governance transparency within Chungnam National University.
GOLFZON NEWDIN Group Chairman Kim Young-chan said, “The importance of ESG is growing ever greater as we work to create a better future for our society. Chungnam National University’s ESG Center plays a leading role in building a sustainable and ethical society as a hub of education, research, and practice,” adding, “We hope these development funds will not only contribute to spreading ESG culture at the university but also serve as an important foundation for Chungnam National University to fulfill its various roles.”
GOLFZON and Chungnam National University first formed their relationship in 2009, beginning with a donation of development funds to the College of Arts. In 2014, the two parties signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement for student startup support and regional social contribution projects, supporting a wide range of areas to cultivate entrepreneurs, including running startup support education programs, providing hands-on learning opportunities, and carrying out joint industry-academia research projects. To date, GOLFZON has delivered approximately KRW 330 million in development funds to Chungnam National University, including a total of KRW 200 million in startup support funds, continuing its efforts to nurture future IT talent.
In recognition of these contributions, GOLFZON NEWDIN Group Chairman Kim Young-chan was honored in 2023 with the first honorary doctorate in technology management from Chungnam National University’s Department of Technology Commercialization Convergence.
Meanwhile, ‘GOLFZON,’ which started in May 2000 as a screen golf venture company, has now grown into the GOLFZON NEWDIN Group, pioneering a new market called simulation golf through the technological convergence of golf with information and communication technology (ICT), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR), and diversifying its business into field golf and golf equipment distribution. GOLFZON has also entered overseas markets such as Japan, the United States, China, and Vietnam, leaping forward as a global golf platform company and taking the lead in advancing the domestic golf industry and elevating the standing of Korean golf around the world.
